Summary

Read the first book in the New York Times bestselling The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel series, perfect for fans of The Maze Runner and Percy Jackson and the Olympians。

He holds the secret that can end the world。

The truth: Nicholas Flamel was born in Paris on September 28, 1330。 Nearly 700 years later, he is acknowledged as the greatest Alchemyst of his day。 It is said that he discovered the secret of eternal life。

The records show that he died in 1418。

But his tomb is empty。

The legend: Nicholas Flamel lives。 But only because he has been making the elixir of life for centuries。 The secret of eternal life is hidden within the book he protects—the Book of Abraham the Mage。 It's the most powerful book that has ever existed。 In the wrong hands, it will destroy the world。 That's exactly what Dr。 John Dee plans to do when he steals it。 Humankind won't know what's happening until it's too late。 And if the prophecy is right, Sophie and Josh Newman are the only ones with the power to save the world as we know it。

Sometimes legends are true。

And Sophie and Josh Newman are about to find themselves in the middle of the greatest legend of all time。

Read this when I was 10 in Dutch。 Just reread ir in English and was surprised at how much details I still remembered! Still holds up as a fun book and series setup。

This book was really good and different。 The only thing I didn’t like is it kept changing prospective without warning。 I also did not think the villains point of view was necessary, I got nothing from those chapters。 I still can’t wait to read book number 2。

This book honestly is one of the ones that kick-started my reading obsession as a kid。 I have always read above "average grade level" so when my sister handed this to me and I started reading it was love at first chapter。 I know not many people particularly enjoy this book but aside from a little odd writing(and this is looking back and rereading the series now) and some obvious character flaws I still think it holds up as one of my favorite series。 This book honestly is one of the ones that kick-started my reading obsession as a kid。 I have always read above "average grade level" so when my sister handed this to me and I started reading it was love at first chapter。 I know not many people particularly enjoy this book but aside from a little odd writing(and this is looking back and rereading the series now) and some obvious character flaws I still think it holds up as one of my favorite series。 。。。more

Fast paced plot leaves little room for much character development, but as a fantasy fan, the magic system and cameos from mythological figures made this an entertaining read。Probably a great book for getting children or teens into reading。

will always be my favorite book for so many untold reasons and memories。 🥰

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 The first book was already catchimg and interesting on the first chapter。 Like when Dr。 Dee and Nicholas fought for the book with Josh's involvement。 This is a good start for the youngsters to read。 The involvement of various mythologies was incredible, especially mixing them up。 The first book was already catchimg and interesting on the first chapter。 Like when Dr。 Dee and Nicholas fought for the book with Josh's involvement。 This is a good start for the youngsters to read。 The involvement of various mythologies was incredible, especially mixing them up。 。。。more

3。5。 Non-stop action。 Magic。 Fickle Teenagers。 Ancient magic and magicians。 Not on the level of Harry potter, but written decently and could be considered a parallel universe to that of HP。 I think I'll keep reading 3。5。 Non-stop action。 Magic。 Fickle Teenagers。 Ancient magic and magicians。 Not on the level of Harry potter, but written decently and could be considered a parallel universe to that of HP。 I think I'll keep reading 。。。more

Good YA fantasy book, first in the series。

This genre of YA retelling of mythos from around the world has been done better by other authors。 The twins are flat and I'm actually disappointed I'm not interested enough in continuing the series。 Good on Mr。 Scott though for not going with only the most known myths and gods。 Kudos。 This genre of YA retelling of mythos from around the world has been done better by other authors。 The twins are flat and I'm actually disappointed I'm not interested enough in continuing the series。 Good on Mr。 Scott though for not going with only the most known myths and gods。 Kudos。 。。。more

Shocked to see many didn't like this book。 I honestly love it (and the whole series) I've read the whole series twice now and I absolutely adore the story。 It is truly beautiful and is for all ages。 I don't know how to put into words how much I liked it but you shouldn't let yourself be scared away by some of the other reviews and give it a try! I promise you won't regret it。 ( Shocked to see many didn't like this book。 I honestly love it (and the whole series) I've read the whole series twice now and I absolutely adore the story。 It is truly beautiful and is for all ages。 I don't know how to put into words how much I liked it but you shouldn't let yourself be scared away by some of the other reviews and give it a try! I'm pretty sure that I was destined to read this series since it involves Nicholas Flamel - a name which Harry Potter fans will recall mentioned in association with the Sorcerer's Stone。 Human twin teenagers stumble upon a full on wizard fight in a bookstore, and now their lives can never be the same。 Throw in gods of myth, creatures of legend, and a good old light vs。 dark world domination plot, and you've got an addictive series! This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I didn't realize this was a YA book when I saw it on a list of Harry Potter alternatives, but when I was going through it I instantly felt like it was below my reading level。 I finished the book anyways。 It ends on a cliffhanger, which was disappointing since I don't want to read the next book。 I didn't realize this was a YA book when I saw it on a list of Harry Potter alternatives, but when I was going through it I instantly felt like it was below my reading level。 I finished the book anyways。 It ends on a cliffhanger, which was disappointing since I don't want to read the next book。 。。。more

I went into this book pretty excited to read about Nicholas Flamel。 And found the character lacking, he just didn't have enough depth to be immortal, in my opinion。 He was boring and manipulative。 The characters that most interested me in this book were the side characters Scathach & Hekate。 The things that are most important to me in fantasy books are world-building and character development。 The world-building when they visited Hekate was decent。 I would love to visit her tree。 There was some I went into this book pretty excited to read about Nicholas Flamel。 And found the character lacking, he just didn't have enough depth to be immortal, in my opinion。 He was boring and manipulative。 The characters that most interested me in this book were the side characters Scathach & Hekate。 The things that are most important to me in fantasy books are world-building and character development。 The world-building when they visited Hekate was decent。 I would love to visit her tree。 There was some foreshadowing of character development to come in later books from the series, but the book did not hook me enough to continue reading the series。 。。。more

I think I had too many expectations。 If I knew these are teenage books, I would not spend my time reading them。 The idea of the whole book intrigued me, and when I started to read 。。。 boring。 The real-life of the people in this book is more stimulating if you read non-fiction。 But I plan to finish all books。

I thought I would've enjoyed this book way more。 I didn't。 It was not the best nor the worst。 The characters were not that likable especially the brother (totally forgot his name even though he's one of the main characters)。 I don't really know if I want to continue this series。 I don't know anymore。 I thought I would've enjoyed this book way more。 I didn't。 It was not the best nor the worst。 The characters were not that likable especially the brother (totally forgot his name even though he's one of the main characters)。 I don't really know if I want to continue this series。 I don't know anymore。 。。。more

If you're interested in centuries old immortals trying to stop a race older than the said immortal, have a read! If you want historical figures appearing in your story, Look no further and give this book a go! 。。。more

I enjoyed this series much more than I thought I would。 I went into it knowing it was YA and not expecting it to be Harry Potter。 It was a cool fantasy series with great descriptions of other worlds and fight scenes。

I was completely surprised with this book! I really really enjoyed it, despite thinking I would only, you know, *like* it。 The writing was really easy to follow while still keeping you hooked, with intricate mystery and a fast paced plot。 You were never bored while reading this book。 The characters had amazing personalities, and relatable qualities so it is easy to find a character you like。 I loved all the Egyptian mythology included!

Great young adult novel along the lines of Harry potter but based more on historical and mythological characters。 I found this to be A very engaging novel and look forward to the next book in the series。 I received this book as part of a Goodreads giveaway but the opinions expressed are solely my own。

The first half of this was such a slog。 I kept going, though, because Scott did need to lay out the historical/mythical background。 It picked up in the second half so I'm going to continue with the series but I'm not going to be devouring all six in a matter of days。 The first half of this was such a slog。 I kept going, though, because Scott did need to lay out the historical/mythical background。 It picked up in the second half so I'm going to continue with the series but I'm not going to be devouring all six in a matter of days。 。。。more
